After three years of work in December 2006 agreement was signed between Baltic states and North Europe countries about unified hotel classification system “Baltic- North  Europe hotel classification system”. These news were announced of Friday at Balttour 2007. Participating countries – Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Denmark, Sweden, Iceland.

What this system means for hotels and guests? Unified star rating system in all region, so 3 star hotel in Sweden will have the same standarts as 3 star hotel in Estonia. It means less dissatisfaction with hotel`s quality. New system will allow to classify hotels that didn`t embrace with existing systems. Basically there will be unified main standarts for every category and countries may ask for additional standarts if they want. Already certified hotels will simply be adapted in new system.

All hotels after certification will get such plate to be put in visible place at entrance:

“H” will be in countries` national flag colour. Soon states` hotel associations will start to make joint home page with region`s certified hotels.

Baltic-North Europe region is one of the first regions in the world that has unified hotel classification system. It is planned that Finland and Norway will join soon.
